Dr. Iichiroh Ohhira, Ph.D

Doctor of Natural Science and Technology, Science and Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Iichiroh Ohhira, Ph.D, a distinguished professor and research scientist who has lectured at universities in Malaysia, Korea and Japan, has authored or coauthored more than 20 scientific research studies on lactic acid bacteria.

Story of OM-X

The story of OM-X began in 1982, during a celebration ceremony in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, where Dr. Ohhira was serving his tenure. Feeling unwell during the event, he was offered a spoonful of a “mysterious fermented drink” by a local acquaintance. To his amazement, he felt better almost immediately. Intrigued by the experience, Dr. Ohhira returned to Japan and decided to delve deeper into the science of fermentation.

Enrolling in advanced studies at the graduate school of Okayama University, Dr. Ohhira dedicated himself to understanding the potential of fermentation. Through his research, he discovered that the “mysterious drink” contained probiotics derived from a unique fermentation process. Inspired, he began formulating a similar process, incorporating seasonal vegetables and fruits harvested at their peak nutritional value.

Dr. Ohhira experimented tirelessly, testing various combinations of lactic acid bacteria, and refining his techniques through years of trial and error. After five years of meticulous fermentation, he perfected the process, creating a powerful blend known as Ohhira Mountain Fruit, or OM-X. Encapsulated in a soft gel, OM-X became a groundbreaking product, offering the benefits of 3-Bios: Probiotics, Prebiotics, and Postbiotics.

In 1989, OM-X was successfully launched in Malaysia, marking the beginning of a journey to promote health and well-being through the science of fermentation.
